We are looking for a talented and passionate Scientific Associate with extensive experience in targeted and/or untargeted analysis of metabolites and/or proteins for the Molecular Biomarkers Team within Idorsia’s Biomarkers and Omics group of the Translational Sciences division.
The Biomarkers and Omics group supports Idorsia’s drug discovery and development projects across the pipeline by performing Omics experiments that support the understanding of drug and disease mechanisms. Furthermore, biomarkers are developed and measured to support clinical translation. The studies performed will include cellular and animal models, as well as clinical samples. The Molecular Biomarkers Team is equipped with three state-of-the-art mass spectrometers and provides high-quality data to project teams on both endogenous metabolites and proteins.
The lab works in close collaboration with other labs in the Biomarkers and Omics group, drug discovery, and clinical development department to obtain an integrated view of drug and disease mechanisms.
Job Responsibilities
In this laboratory-focused role, the Scientific Associate will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Develop and implement new protein and metabolite analysis workflows, including both sample preparation, targeted, and untargeted MS methodology.
- Prepare samples (pre-clinical and clinical) from a variety of different biological matrices (cells, solid tissues, and biofluids) for quantitative LC-MS proteomic and metabolite quantification.
- Perform advanced hybrid bioanalytical or chemical proteomics workflows.
- Analyze targeted and untargeted quantitative LC-MS datasets using commercial analysis software and R scripts.
- Perform bioanalytical study design in collaboration with Scientists.
- Actively contribute to the smooth running of the laboratory.
- Operate and maintain triple quadrupole and Orbitrap LC-MS/MS systems.
- Proactive troubleshoot experiments and instruments.
- Keep a detailed and meticulous electronic lab journal.
- Present data in Biomarkers and Omics team meetings as well as to internal stakeholders.
Candidate’s Requirements
- Bachelor or Master’s degree (University or University of Applied Sciences) in biochemistry, chemistry, biotechnology, or appropriate related discipline.
- At least 3 years relevant experience in targeted or untargeted LC-MS analysis of endogenous metabolites and proteins.
- Knowledge and experience of protein or metabolite chemistry including some of the following: different lysis and extraction procedures (solid-phase, liquid-liquid), subcellular fractionation, metabolic labeling experiments, and tryptic digest.
- Experience in development, characterization, and validation of exploratory biomarker assays for clinical studies
- Experience in working in a regulated environment would be an asset.
- Well organized and proficient at running complex multi-step experiments.
- Experience with the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of triple quadrupole mass spectrometers as well as UHPLC and nano-flow liquid chromatography.
- Experience in analysis of LC-MS data using dedicated software
- Knowledge of R and/or python would be an assset
- Understanding of experimental design and basic statistical knowledge.
- A strong passion for bioanalytics, mass spectrometry, translational science and drug discovery and a willingness to explore new areas.
- Team player, at ease interacting in a multicultural environment.
- Proficient in the English language. German and/or French would be an advantage.
What Idorsia offers
- Exciting opportunities for development and professional growth within our dynamic organization
- A collaborative and solution-oriented environment where you can make a difference
- An innovative and open culture in a truly multicultural environment
- A competitive salary and generous social benefits
